Magnesium Oxide Colour Variations

The form of Magnesium that we provide here at Missys Bucket is an Australian Mined and produced product from Causemag in NSW.

Magnesium can vary in colour from off-white to light brown/pink and has no association with quality.

I’m often asked why it's brown or pink and if it’s high in Iron. Causemag XLM has an Iron content of .2% which equates to only 30mg/daily dose of 15g Magnesium Oxide.

Causemag has been mining and manufacturing high grade magnesium oxide products for use in agriculture, animal health, industrial and pharmaceutical processes, for over 60 years.

Causmag magnesium oxides are derived from high-purity natural magnesites from their mining operations at Thuddungra near Young, NSW, Australia. The magnesites are cryptocrystalline with small crystallite size – high density, and very high purity.

Controlled calcination and processing of the product leads to the following desirable chemical and physical characteristics:

  • Very high MgO content – with corresponding low impurity levels.
  • Consistent chemical and physical properties.
  • High bulk densities lead to reduced demand for storage and handling.
  • High chemical reactivity.

The Magnesium product we use at Missy’s Bucket is called XLM and is produced under closely controlled conditions and precision milled to superfine particle size.

XLM’s high surface area and superfine particle size assists in making it highly bioavailable.

Its high bioavailability and the fact that it’s a more concentrated form of Magnesium than other commonly used forms for horses make it a superior product.

Other forms, including sulphates and chlorides, have much lower levels of elemental magnesium, meaning you have to feed much more to achieve the same dose rate.

Magnesium sourced and mined outside Australia has proven to have poor bioavailability compared to Causemag XLM.
